Enable / disable the Spell Check in Windows 10

Windows 10 has built-in spell check & autocorrect functions that you can choose to either enable or disable.

[Solution 1] Alter the Spell Check feature in the Settings app


  1. Open the Settings app and click Devices
  2. Open Typing and change the Autocorrect misspelt words setting to either On or Off.
  3. Change the Highlight misspelt words setting to either On or Off.

[Solution 2] Alter the Spell Check feature in the Registry


  1. Open Run and execute Regedit
  2. Open HKEY_CURRENT_USER \SOFTWARE \Microsoft \TabletTip \1.7.
  3. Change the value of the EnableAutocorrection DWORD. Use 0 to turn it off or 1 to turn it on.
  4. Change the value of the EnableSpellchecking DWORD. Use 0 to turn it off or 1 to turn it on.
  5. The new settings will be applied after restarting the computer.
