Permanently removing emails that appear crossed out in Outlook

Purged mails are permanently removed from the email server. This means they are not placed in the Removed items folder.


How to permanently remove emails that appear crossed out when supposedly deleting them. Follow these steps if you can't remove emails or can't find the removed items folder.

[Solution 1] Purging crossed out emails in Outlook


  1. Open the Outlook app.
  2. Click File in the top-left corner.
  3. Click Edit and select Purge.
  4. Next, click Purge marked items. Warning: these emails are permanently removed from the email server and not placed in Removed items.

[Solution 2] Making the removed items folder reappear.

    Solution for the issue where the Removed Items folder isn't visible in either the webmail or the application itself (Folder > IMAP Folders).

  1. Click File in the top-left corner.
  2. Under Account Information, click Account Settings twice. The E-mail accounts window will now pop-up.
  3. Choose Edit. The POP and IMAP account settings windows will now pop-up.
  4. Then choose More Settings in the bottom-right corner.
  5. Next, click the tab Advanced.
  6. Type Inbox (with a capital letter) behind 'Root folder path' and click OK.
