Reset / clear the Event Viewer log files in Windows

Use the Command Prompt or PowerShell to clear the Event Viewer Log Files in Windows.

[Solution 1] Clear the log files within the Event Viewer

  1. Open Run and execute eventvwr.msc
  2. Right-click the log or category you wish to clear and select Clear Log...

[Solution 2] Clear the log files with commands


Command Prompt

  1. Close the Event Viewer.
  2. Open the Command Prompt (Admin).
  3. Execute for /F "tokens=*" %1 in ('wevtutil.exe el') DO wevtutil.exe cl "%1"

PowerShell

  1. Close the Event Viewer.
  2. Open PowerShell (Admin).
  3. Execute wevtutil el | Foreach-Object {wevtutil cl "$_"}
