Unable to install / update Internet Explorer 11 error 9C59

Software: Windows 7, 8 & 10 | Last modified on 2018-06-18

When attempting to install or update to Internet Explorer 11, error 9C59 occurs and the installation fails.

[Step 1] Install the required updates for Windows 7

Skip this step if you're using Windows 8 or 10.

  1. Open the Command Prompt (Admin) or PowerShell (Admin).
  2. Execute Net stop wuauserv (repeat this after every update).
  3. Download and install Update KB2729094

  4. Download and install Update KB2731771

  5. Download and install Update KB2533623

  6. Download and install Update KB2670838

  7. Download and install Update KB2786081

  8. Download and install Update KB2834140

  9. Restart the computer after installing the required updates.

[Step 2] Install Internet Explorer 11

  1. Open the Command Prompt (Admin) or PowerShell (Admin).
  2. Execute FORFILES /P %WINDIR%\servicing\Packages /M Microsoft-Windows-InternetExplorer-*11.*.mum /c "cmd /c echo Uninstalling package @fname && start /w pkgmgr /up:@fname /norestart"
  3. Download the installation file for Internet Explorer 11 at https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/help/17621/internet-explorer-downloads.
    Name the file IE11 and save it in your Downloads folder.
  4. Open the Command Prompt (Admin) or PowerShell (Admin).
  5. Execute PATH\IE11.exe /update-no
    Replace PATH with the location of the file, for example C:\Users\Username\Downloads\IE11.exe /update-no.
  6. Restart the computer to finish the installation.
