Windows: USB ports are not working / found

Software: Windows 7, 8 & 10 | Last modified on 2018-06-19

Nothing happens when attempting to use the USB ports. This issue usually occurs after a recent upgrade of an older Windows to a newer version. It's usually caused by either an outdated chipset or BIOS driver.

[Solution 1] Turn off the 'fast start-up' feature

  1. Open the Control Panel and click Power Options.
  2. Open Choose what the power buttons do.
  3. Select Change settings that are currently unavailable.
  4. Untick Turn on fast start-up (recommended).
  5. Restart the computer.

[Solution 2] Update the chipset drivers

Search on the motherboard's manufacturers website for a newer chipset driver or BIOS version.
